How to print and align oil change stickers

A sticker can look right on screen and still print at the wrong scale. Check your exact printer and stock first, then print one plain-paper test before using a label roll or sheet.

Before you print

  1. Check the product number and printer model. DYMO roll sizes and printer compatibility vary by model. DYMO says LabelWriter 5 Series printers work only with authentic DYMO LW labels, so confirm compatibility in the official chart before using a roll. Avery 22806 is a different format: twelve 2 × 2 inch labels on a US Letter sheet.
  2. Choose the matching tool. The DYMO page creates one label PDF at the width and length you enter in millimeters. The Avery page lays out twelve labels on a Letter page and includes a one-inch calibration square.
  3. Use 100% or Actual Size. Turn off Fit to Page, Shrink, or other scaling, and confirm the paper size and orientation in the print dialog. Scaling can change both label size and position.
  4. Test on plain paper. Compare the test print with the roll or label sheet before loading label stock. For Avery sheets, check that the labels line up and that the calibration square measures one inch.
  5. Load label stock only after the test fits. Follow the printer maker's instructions for media type and feed direction. If the print is offset, confirm the selected label dimensions and driver settings before changing the PDF scale.

For a DYMO roll label

Read the roll packaging or measure the label, then enter its width and length in millimeters. The generated file uses those dimensions; it does not check whether a roll is supported by your specific printer.

Use the roll and driver settings listed for your model. Check DYMO's compatibility chart, especially if you have a LabelWriter 5 Series printer.

Keep printer and label compatibility separate from PDF size

Entering a width and length controls the PDF dimensions, but it cannot identify your printer or certify a label material. Read the exact printer and label documentation before printing. This tool is independent of DYMO and Avery.

Avery's printing instructions recommend 100% / Actual Size and a plain-paper test. DYMO publishes model and label compatibility information; use it to confirm that your roll is suitable for your machine.
